đź§ľ About the Role
Canonical, publisher of Ubuntu and a leader in open source, is hiring a Developer Relations Engineer to join its newly formed DevRel team. This role combines deep technical knowledge with empathy and communication skills to connect with open source communities and improve the developer experience. You’ll serve as a strategic liaison between Canonical’s engineering teams and the global developer ecosystem.


âś… Position Highlights
• Remote position (APAC, EMEA, or AMER time zones preferred)
• Engage with global developer communities and open source contributors
• Drive feedback loops between developers and internal teams
• Present at events, write technical content, and shape developer experience
• Collaborate with engineering, marketing, and product teams

📋 What You’ll Own
• Participate in strategic product and development discussions
• Actively engage with developers via forums, social, events, and meetups
• Help debug and resolve developer issues
• Improve developer documentation and onboarding materials
• Write blogs, technical articles, and workshop materials
• Represent Canonical at conferences and speak at public events
• Identify and advocate for opportunities to improve developer tools and processes
• Contribute to Linux packaging (Snaps, debs, containers, etc.)


🎯 Must-Have Traits
• Strong Linux developer or systems engineer background
• Demonstrated contributions to open source projects
• Experience with Linux software packaging formats
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Comfortable engaging with technical and non-technical audiences
• Confident speaker, community builder, and relationship nurturer
• Willing to travel internationally 2–4 times per year for events
• Fluent in English
