🧾 About the Role
The University of Alabama Libraries is seeking a Web Developer I to join its technical development team. This role supports and enhances web applications and library websites using modern front-end and back-end frameworks. You’ll contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven environment—building tools that support digital scholarship, learning, and accessibility. Remote work may be considered in accordance with university policy.


Position Highlights
• 💰 Pay Range: $48,600 – $60,800 (Salaried E7)
• 🕘 Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:45 PM
• 💼 Full-Time + Benefits Eligible
• 🏛 Department: University Libraries
• 🏡 Remote Eligible (Subject to Policy)
• 📍 Location: Tuscaloosa, Alabama


📋 What You’ll Own
• Build and maintain websites and workflows using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP
• Support CMS platforms (WordPress, Omeka) including theme/plugin development
• Write clean, standards-compliant front-end and back-end code
• Work with relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and write SQL queries
• Collaborate within a hybrid team of developers and librarians
• Maintain version control using GitHub
• Ensure code meets University and government standards


🎯 Must-Have Traits
• Bachelor’s degree
• Some experience in web development
• Familiarity with WordPress or Omeka development (themes/plugins)
• Proficiency in:

  • JavaScript, Angular, React, NodeJS, JQuery
  • HTML, CSS, JSON, PHP
  • Relational databases (MySQL), Git
    • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to multitask, learn quickly, and collaborate in cross-functional teams

🛠 Preferred Skills
• Knowledge of WCAG 2 accessibility standards and SEO best practices
• Experience with CSS preprocessors (SASS/LESS)
• Advanced JavaScript framework experience (React/Vue.js)
• Experience migrating sites to WordPress or Omeka
• Familiarity with agile methodology
• Linux command line and system admin experience
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines
